Canadian Geographic (2022)
CanGeo is the Canadian cousin of National Geographic, and usually their giant pull-out, fold-out maps are heavy on the technical cartography or are realistic pictorial affairs. I love that kind of thing, but this portfolio piece is neither technical cartography nor realistically illustrated. What is it? The illustration part of a 27x20” two-sided (french on one side, english on the other) map I made for Canadian Geographic’s May 2022 issue, showing Queen Elizabeth II’s many visits to Canada 1957-present. Each little crown represents a visit, each little vignette a highlight that was also written up in accompanying text (not shown, but it ran at top right). Hat tip to project coordinator Sarah Brown and everyone at CG for getting a little wild for the Queen’s Jubilee.
