Griswold Tyng was born in Dorchester, MA, in 1883 but I have a feeling his heart was in Boston. He attended the Massachusetts School of art there, and while he left to be an army artist in WWI and WWII, he came back between them to make this charmingly detailed historic pictorial map of the Commons in 1934. Afterwards? He spent more than a decade as consultant and illustrator for the Boston City Planning Board. His love for the area shows, and every home near the Commons should have this beauty on their wall.

Available as a reproduction at 16x12" or 24x18" on Epson Enhanced Matte 192 gsm paper printed with Epson UltraChrome XD2 archival ink. Sold in an open edition, unframed. Based on this public domain image held by the Norman B. Leventhal Map & Education Center.
